The Equestrian Academy were lucky enough to be invited to visit the Moore's Racing Stables last week. The Stables are set in 180 acres of beautiful countryside and woodland, Cisswood has top-class training facilities with stabling for over 150 racehorses.
Students had the privilege of meeting with the highlyrenowned racehorse training duo Jayne and Gary Moore. Gary started as a National Hunt jockey with over 200 career wins. He retired from riding and is now a renowned racehorse trainer with numerous champion horses and jockeys under his wing.
The Moore children have followed in their parents’ footsteps and passion for all things equine and they have all competed in various equestrian disciplines growing up, whilst attending school here at Cardinal Newman. The Moore family were able to look back fondly on their time here at Newman with Mr Miller having taught them all! He was able to tell a few funny stories along the way which was wonderful for the students to hear.
Jamie and Joshua Moore are both winning National Hunt jockeys and their brother Ryan Moore is a champion flat jockey with over 2,400 wins to his name. Hayley is a National Hunt jockey and a regular face within racing media as a presenter. The students were able to ask questions and
receive advice about how to aspire to work in all areas of the racing industry.
We feel hugely privileged and proud as a school to have a connection with such a successful equestrian family. Cardinal Newman has in fact had over 8 winning jockeys go through the school. Colin and Mark Bolger and Ian Mongan and Robert Lucey-Butler have also done extremely well within the racing world.
The Moore’s have kindly offered to support our aspiring equestrians with offers of VIP tours of their training facilities. They will have opportunities to meet and speak with staff and trainee jockeys working for the family and the student’s personal favourite part, being able to watch the race horses out at exercises on the gallops and meet the champions horses themselves. Hayley Moore has a wealth of experience and is known for her support and producing of grooms and young riders and many aspiring Jockeys. Academy students will have further opportunities to do work experience and training days, watch this space!
Anyone interested in joining the Newman Equestrian academy is invited! No need to have prior experience or your own horse...just a passion for all things equine!
